8th Grade Class Trip

The 8th grade class trip is one of the many gems of Immanuel Lutheran School.  During the year, students and parents raise money by making and serving hot dog, corn dog, or sub sandwich lunches on Wednesdays for their fellow Immanuel students.  This fundraiser supplies the funds for a five-day class camping trip at the end of the school year around southwestern Colorado for students and their parents.

Visiting the Great Sand DunesThe trip itinerary usually includes:

  • The Royal Gorge
  • The Great Sand Dunes National Park
  • Treasure Falls
  • Mesa Verde National Park
  • The Hot Springs at Ouray
  • Glenwood Caverns and Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park
  • Sylvan Lake

This wrap-up to their last year at Immanuel provides an opportunity to step back and spend time together before the rush of high school begins.

Glenwood CavernsEach day after breakfast, small groups of 4 to 5 students meet together with a parent group leader to discuss the features of the places we're visiting and reflect on God's Word. Students have the opportunity to share expectations, concerns, fears, challenges, and the excitement they are anticipating in high school.

The students and group leaders take time to pray for each other and share in each other's joys and giving thanks to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The 1,100 mile trip includes some of the most majestic places in our beautiful state including views of Pike's Peak, the San Luis Valley, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the San Juan Mountains, and the Grand Mesa.

The Sky Swing at Glenwood CavernsThe trip can be a personal challenge because camping in Colorado's unpredictable spring weather often means snow or rain.  The food, fun, and fellowship that happen during the trip make for lasting memories.  Time spent around the campfire with one another deepens our friendships and appreciation for God's amazing creation.

The 8th grade class trip provides a great opportunity for our graduating students to draw closer to God, members of their class, and their parents.

"Every day I will bless thee, and praise thy name for ever and ever.  Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable."  Psalm 145:2-3
